Where: Columbus, OH

When: March 1, 2008

I have been a Hives fan since Vini, Vedi, Vicious came out in 2002. I eagerly awaited each new record as they were released. My family lives outside of Nashville, TN, and it never seemed like there was going to be opportunity to see The Hives perform live. They came close in the fall of 2007 when they opened for Maroon 5, but the I was unable to make the closest dates due to my work schedule. So, 2 weeks ago I happened to be checking out their website and saw that they were going to be in Columbus on March 1st. Now Columbus isn't exactly close to Nashville, but it was the closest they were going to get before heading off back to Europe. Seeing this as our only opportunity, I bought tickets and we headed off on the most memorable road trip of my life. See, I recently introduced my two sons to The Hives this past Christmas. Griffin and Gavin who are 10 and 9 got new iPods with The Black and White Album already downloaded from Santa this past Christmas. My boys had already become enamored with the band through their Cartoon Network theme and the awesome video for Tick, Tick, Boom. Hoping to make a memorable impression on my sons, I presented them with our tickets for the March 1st show and they were extremely excited.
We left Tennessee on Friday before the show and spent the night in Louisville, KY. Saturday, we reached Columbus around 3pm. I was listening to CD101 as soon as we got into the city to see if they were talking about that night's performance and found out that they were going to be at the Gallery Hop before the show. My family and I quickly got ready and headed downtown to meet The Hives. After hanging out for 45 minutes, the guys showed up at the CD101 tent.
All the guys were very gracious and polite while we introduced ourselves. They all seemed pleasently surprised to hear that we had traveled from TN to see their show. They all autographed my CD cover, some stickers for Griffin and Gavin and posed for some pictures.
After the appearance, we quickly made our way to the theater for the show. What can I say, other than WOW! Best live show ever! The venue was great and the band sounded awesome. My two boys never sat down and soaked in every moment. The best part of the night came at the end when, as the band was leaving the stage, Nicholas said "We would like to thank the folks from Nashville for coming to the show." My wife's head almost exploded!
Anyway, sorry for the long story, but The Hives are great! I was very proud of the fact that my sons' first experience with meeting a rock group was with such a collection of hard-working, kind and dedicated individuals as Pelle, Matt, Chris, Vigilante and Nicholas.
Thank you Hives, for being so awesome!

So after me and the guys ate Chipotle, we headed down to the Newport and got in line at 5. When all of the sudden Matt, Nick, and Pelle come out the front doors! Me and my friends were freaking, but to my surprise no one else was. Let me say though that The Hives are the nicest and calmest people that I have ever met.
We were front row in front of Nick and Pelle it was amazing.
Most fun that I have ever had at a concert!
Thank you guys for taking the time for photos and autographs also.

Can I just say my heart was bleeding after that show. Oh wait let me check, yep its still bleeding. And right now I am experiencing withdraw. My friend and I went into Chipotle and what do you know? The Hives are eating there. What? So we walked up, asked for a picture, yes, and got one. Yes it was a very awkward moment but uh picture?
Waiting in line for three hours in sub zero temperatures was so completely beyond worth it.
You just raised the bar for live shows to infinity and beyond.

Where: Chicago - The Riviera

When: February 29th, 2008

It was a bitter Friday evening in the cold city streets of Chicago, Illinois. I was on my way down Clark St. on the way to the "L" train, remembering the time 6 months prior where i had ran into Pelle walking down that same street with a rocker friend of his. We exchanged our greetings and were later on our way that September morning. As I rode the "L" I vaguely knew what to expect from my Hives, for they always put on a spontaneously wild, Swedish, Rock n Roll show!

I approached the Riviera Theater and had to throw away my ale before the guards discovered it! I made my way through the crowd with some friends and elbowed my way to the front to see my favourite band. I was talking with other fans around me when the lights dimmed, and i heard the song "stroll through hive manor corridors" over the sound system. My body now filled with adrenaline, i was watching the stage attentively to see the greatest rock n roll band in existence take the stage. They blew my mind for the second time and i screamed along with every song. This was easily the best concert i have ever been to, taking a spot just above the Adicts, who put on a similar energetic show, but no comparison to the hives, and i know the hives are fans of.

It was nearing the end of their set, and i was already having a splendid time, and i decided to make a fantastic decision to cap off my night. I saw Chris Dangerous tapping the bells of the cymbals with his sticks, and i knew the theater was about to blow up with Tick Tick Boom. halfway through the song, i pushed those behind me back, and i jumped on top of the barrier, and across the security moat, onto the stage. I put up my arms in triumph and ran around looking for Pelle, my hero. I found him, which wasn't hard amongst the five others on stage, and i couldn't believe my eyes, and i don't think he could either. I don't think he could believe how in hive manor i had gained access to the stage. I grabbed his shoulders and screamed the next verse at him, (You've been crying to me, but it's too late.) out of the corner of my eye, i saw a large guard running towards me. I ran the other direction in fear, and stage dove back into the crowd. I had almost made a clean escape, but security grabbed my ankle and dragged me back. On my way out, i shook Pelles hand and i shook Nicholaus Arsons Flaming phalanges as well. I felt as if i was equal to them, if only briefly. i thought i would be escorted back into the crowd, but instead i was handcuffed and arrested for trespassing! The security took my information and all literally threw me out of the venue. I later gained access back in to get my bag from coat check, where i was greeted by many new fans of my antics, and much applause. I spent the rest of the night shouting "come meet the hives at the hives after-party! T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S! HIVES!" and handing out information to your after party for kicks.

thank you, Hives, for giving me the greatest night of my life, and making me so many friends. You are my favourite band, and always will be. perhaps someday a band of my own will be lucky enough to play along side you! I love you all! Come back to Chicago soon! Rock n Roll!
